    Frequently Asked Questions

    Every one to two years, children above the age of 3 should receive a routine checkup. Some of the symptoms that indicate your child may have eyesight problems include:
    • Wiping their eyes often
    • Squinting
    • Tilting their head to one side
    • Covering one eye to see
    • Holding the book very close when reading
    • Short-term attention
    You may also notice problems such as: puffy eyes, redness, eyes that do not interact, constant watering etc.  
    Doctors can identify "silent" disorders like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, etc. through routine examinations. It is better to discover these issues as early as possible, so that they can be cured more quickly and easily. This is only possible through routine checks. Every two years on average, adults and people under the age of 40 should undergo an eye examination. If they wear glasses, this checkup should be annual. The chance of developing age-related illnesses like cataracts and glaucoma is increased in adults 40 and older.  Therefore, especially in these cases, annual checks should not be neglected.

    For years, LASIK surgery has been considered the gold standard in laser eyeglass removal surgery. However, due to advances in technology and techniques, an even more advanced treatment option, Femto-LASIK, is now available.   This is a revolutionary new procedure and is considered "laser only, no incision" surgery. With traditional LASIK, a controlled microknife (microkeratome) is used to create the flap in the cornea (glass of the eye).   Femto-LASIK uses a precise laser (Femtosecond) to conduct this "flap" without making eye contact, maximizing safety and precision. The second laser is then used on the patient to perform the final elimination of glasses.   Above all, the main differences between the two procedures are:

    Corneal transplant is a surgical procedure performed to remove a damaged cornea and replace it with a healthy donor cornea. The cornea is the front layer of the eye, which has the function of refracting light rays to the retina. Its central part can be replaced with a corneal transplant. When might someone need a corneal transplant? 
    • When the cornea deforms over time (Keratoconus)
    • Because of different corneal dystrophies (progressive and premature weakening of its cells)
    • Turbulence in the cornea, caused by infection or traumatic damage to it
    • Complications from previous eye surgeries.
    In the vast majority of cases, corneal transplant is successful and sometimes, the only hope for recovering lost eyesight!
    Here are some helpful suggestions to revive your eyes after a long day:
    • Make an effort to close your eyes as frequently as you can. This stops the surface of the eyes from drying out.
    • Observe the 20-20-20 principle! Every 20 minutes, change your gaze to focus for at least 20 seconds on an item that is at least 20 meters away.
    • Keep your distance from the computer screen at 60 cm.
    • Adjust screen brightness and contrast. Your screen should not be brighter than the ambient light where you are working.
    • Use artificial tears to refresh your eyes when they feel dry.
